A major milestone in the development of the new medical centre for the Pear Tree area of Derby will be reached on Wednesday 6 August with the official Ground Breaking ceremony hosted by developer One Medical Ltd.

Plans for the new integrated primary healthcare centre on St Thomas Road were given the go ahead last year by Derby City Planning Department and the Derby City Primary Care Trust. Work is underway with the demolition of the old building complete, and the contractor on site. Kathryn Blackshaw, Director of Service Development and Market Management at the PCT said: "The new building will allow the Practice to offer many enhanced and extended services that they have not been able to develop in their current building."

The new Lister House Surgery, due to open in summer 2009, will replace the outdated and undersized accommodation at the current site in Harrington Street and will offer much improved facilities for staff and patients. Following a public consultation held earlier in the year, Freda Slater from the practice's Expert Patient Group commented: "We have waited a long time for a new and up to date building and it is great to be involved in shaping the services that will be available to us as patients in the future."

Dr Peter Moss, the Executive Partner at Lister House Surgery added: "It is fantastic to see work beginning on site and we are very excited about watching the building take shape. Moving to the new surgery will allow the Practice to continue offering high levels of care to our patients whilst increasing the additional services we are able to offer. We look forward to welcoming members of the community to our new building with pride."
